We specialize in making sound dietary and nutritional recommendations for dogs and cats. You may have questions related to nutrition about your pet. For example:
- You may be uncertain which pet food product to feed.
- You may have general questions concerning pet nutrition.
- You may have questions about commercial pet foods or alternative feeding options such as homemade, fresh, raw, etc.
- Your pet may be sick and not eating the recommended diet well, and you want to know about other feeding options.
- Your pet may have more than one medical condition and you may want to know your feeding options.
We make recommendations based on current principles of dietary management and the pets' food preferences. We offer choices based on the known current scientific literature and clinical experience. The veterinary nutritionists at PetDiets combined have more than 100 yrs. of experience from the clinical practice, research, teaching, industry and private consulting perspectives. Your Veterinarian Will Be Involved
Your primary care veterinarian is a vital partner in the care of your pet. Legally, we must work through your veterinarian in making nutritional recommendations to manage medical conditions because we do not have a primary doctor/patient/client relationship with you. We work as a specialty consultant to your veterinarian. For all conversations specific to your pet, the medical records be will reviewed prior to the phone conversation. Please have your veterinarian fax (+1) 800.649.2043 or email (VetNut@att.net) the pet medical records to us.
Each phone conference is completed by a licensed veterinarian who has completed an American College of Veterinary Nutrition (www.ACVN.org) training program in veterinary nutrition. We generally can arrange a phone conference time convenient for you within 5 business days of receiving your request and the pet's medical records using our conference call number. You can check with us at any time by email (VetNut@att.net) to see if we have received the medical records after you have made that request from your local veterinarian(s). We cannot request your medical records from your veterinarian. In many cases, veterinarians require verbal or written consent to forward your pet's medical records to us. We consider client education an important part of our mission and service. We will provide you with the most current information specific to your pets’ medical condition(s) written in language you can understand after the phone conference. You will receive a written set of dietary options with the associated fees that you may review with your veterinarian.
The fee for a Nutrition Phone Conference is $200 for at least a 30-minute conversation. For an expedited turnaround on a phone request, we'll contact you within 48 hrs. of receiving the medical records to set up a phone time for an additional $100 "rush" fee. Be sure to 'check' the "Rush Conference" box in the request form and ask your Veterinarian to send us the medical records asap.
Our phone conferencing fee covers review of medical records, product research in advance and then an in depth conversation with a veterinary nutritionist to discuss your concerns and address your questions. You will be provided a written summary of the conversation and our next step recommendations. The written summary of the phone conversation and our recommendations with associated fees will be provided to you within 3 days of the phone conference.
Please note: the phone conference fee does not include an individualized written feeding plan specific for your pet. A specific feeding plan may be recommended following the phone consult. If you have questions about this process, please feel free to email us (email@example.com).
Ready to Get Started?
- New clients: If this is your first time consulting with us, you will be asked to open an account to link you and your pet(s) with your local veterinarian or specialist from our extensive database. If your veterinarian or local practice is not in our database, you may add that information.
- Returning clients: If you have been here before, you will be asked to log in on the next page.
Note: The nutrition consultation request can be a lengthy process and may require information from your pet's medical records. We recommend using a desktop or laptop computer (rather than a mobile device) and that you reserve at least 30 minutes to complete the process. The better the data provided to us, the better our recommendations will be to you. Thank you.
