Lean or Fatty

Is the primary protein source lean or fatty?

Sara and Nicholas, Southboro, MA If a homemade food lacks sufficient caloric density, the addition of cooked beef or chicken fat, poultry skins, or vegetable or fish oils (tuna, mackerel, sardine) can significantly raise the caloric density without adding other nutrients. Changing the cut of meat can significantly raise the fat content of a food as well. On the other hand, if the pet is overweight, the fat and caloric content of the homemade diet must be decreased for long-term health.
